No prizes for guessing where I’m headed for the start of the summer season! The beach, of course, at Icy Bay, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. Funnest place ever! Mt. St. Elias towering above us all in the background!

  1. […] Further from the sea than all other mountains on this list, Mt St Elias makes up for it in sheer big-ness. Being so large and relatively close to the sea makes for some nasty weather which helps explain why so few people bother climbing it. Some of the more crazy people to have done so are ski mountaineers who climb Mt St Elias for the thrill of one of the longest ski descents in the world. Those with a firmer attachment to their mortal selves can admire the sheer verticality of Mt St Elias from the headwaters of the Taan Fjord either from the comfort of a cruise ship or a sea kayak.
