The north face of Jarvis

Hey Folks

Here’s an image from a new trip we ran this past month. Looking up the Copper Glacier at the North face of Mount Jarvis, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park.

We had a really, really great trip, though not without its moments. Strong winds restricted flights the first two days of the trip and by the time the group all got in the backcountry, two days had passed. We still managed some epic hiking in some really, really awesome country on the northern and least visited side of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. I mean, REALLY bomber backpacking.

Not too many places in the backcountry can one stand and admire a set of peaks with a cumulative height of over 50 000 feet. Jarvis, at 13 000′, Wrangell at 14 000′, Zanetti at 13 000′ and Mt Sanford at over 16 000′ are a landscape lover’s prize.

There’s always something exciting about exploring a terrain and landscape that is new to me. Challenging, often, but always exciting. And with views like this, infinitely rewarding.

We’ll be back here again, for sure.

Cheers

Carl
