Bull Moose and fall colors, Alaska.

Fall moose photo tours

The fall is the best time of the year to photograph the Alaska moose, Alces alces, with the onset of the autumn rut, magnificent fall colors and the bull moose in the prime of his year. This location near Anchorage is one of Alaska’s great photograph locations that is largely undersung and not well promoted outside the state.

That being the case, I’m not about to divulge where it is, exactly, but rest assured there are few places in the world that offer better opportunities to go out for the day and photograph moose.

The hiking involved on this trip is not terribly difficult, but some walking is involved. It might require a mile or 2 hiking, most on an easy trail, though the hiking gets a bit harder once we leave the trail and hit the broken forest of the subalpine terrain. Moderate fitness level required.

Gear required: warm, weather dependent clothing, layers, your camera gear.

Aerial Photography Trips

Aerial photography in Alaska is second to none. The problem with going out to shoot with just a pilot and yourself is your pilot lacks the knowledge a photographer needs. I’m an experienced photographer, but don’t have a plane or a pilot’s license. So, I’ll team up with a local bush pilot and together, we can put you in the best possible locations for some of the most amazing aerial photography opportunities you’ll run across.

Wrangell – St. Elias National Park is perhaps best viewed from the air, and a regular flight-seeing experience is a great trip. An aerial photography trip, with both a photography guide AND a skilled local bush pilot to take us around offer an unparalleled opportunity for the avid photographer to shoot some amazing scenes and locations.

Cost: $700.00 evening or morning shoot.

What’s included: breakfast or dinner, comprehensive trip planning, your 90 minute flight see, photography instruction and guide service, air taxi and an assistant to hold up that window for you.
