You MUST have previous backcountry, multi-day guiding experience. Guides are expected to excel in backcountry planning, preparation, navigation and route finding, safety, and people management. Season typically runs June through early-mid September. Expeditions Alaska leads backpacking trips, hiking trips, camping, photography, sea kayaking, rafting, and packrafting trips. You should be readily capable with multiple skillsets for this gig.Gear Manager Role We are currently hiring for this position. You are a motivated, responsible person able to help out with our outdoor gear packing and prepping and cleaning and maintenance. It’s a casual environment, but we still need to get things done. Your schedule is somewhat flexible, but must fit within trip dates; ie, if a trip starts on July 1, you can pack for that on June 28, or 27, etc, but it needs to be complete and organized ahead of time, in a timely manner. Requirements: clean gear, organize gear repair, some basic gear repair/patches (we can train you), pack for trips and decommission, clean, dry, and put away gear after trips. Additional things like order/purchase food and other items for trips, occasionally shuttle clients to locations, etc Gear is mostly backpacking equipment and packrafting gear. Camp Cook Role We are not currently hiring for this position. If you’re into it though, feel free to send a resume. Requirements; these are remote backcountry camps. You’ll be responsible for the menu, packing food for the trip, prepping and cooking meals, cleaning, and assistance with general camp duties. You must have experience cooking in a backcountry setting and be comfortable “making do” with what we have. Group size is 5-6 clients, a guide, and yourself. Clients are usually pretty easygoing, we have a comprehensive food form they complete with dietary restrictions, preferences, etc. You’re not making separate meals per client, just 3 meals a day, some snacks, and where necessary, accommodate dietary restrictions. You must be comfortable around brown bears. Some experience in bear country is definitely preferred, but not required. All camping, cooking gear, etc, is provided, of course. You’ll need your own personal stuff, clothing, sleeping bag, and so on.Dayhike Guide We rarely need day hike guides, but if you’re looking to get some experience in commercial guiding and trip leadership, this is a great place to start. You need a laptop or desktop, some understanding of modern software tools, (basic) spreadsheets, docs files, email management. Access to a printer is preferred.
